What I know about George Purvis Sr. is from US Census data. Both
George Sr. and George Jr. appear in the 1800 census for Neversink
Twp, but by 1810, George Sr. is gone. So I'd say he probably died
somewhere between 1800 and 1810. His wife Elizabeth is alive in the
1830 census for Rockland Twp.,but has died by Sept 1834. I have a
copy of the instrument where by her "farm" (or a portion thereof - 13
1/2 acres) was conveyed to a Manley Purvis. The parties having an
interest in this sale other than Manley were Isaac Jackson and his
wife Jane(Purvis), David Overton and his wife Elizabeth(Purvis - I
believe) and James Purvis and his wife Abigail(Jackson). It is from
this document that I conclude that David's wife Elizabeth must have
been a Purvis and also a daughter of George and Elizabeth. The 1800
US Census data seem to support this. As to David Overton, what I
know about him comes largely from Quinlan, p.496. This gives his
death as 1872 at around his 95th year. This places his birth date as
being in the late 1770's, probably around 1777-1778. His "buddy"
Isaac Jackson was born 1781, so they would be close in age. He is
last mentioned in the US Census of 1850 living with Hanna, so
apparently his wife Elizabeth is dead by then. I can't explain why
there is no more mention of him in subsequent Census data seeing that
Quinlan has him living in Purvis until his death in 1872. Thanks for
