"James c. Purvis, one of the wealthiest residents of Livingston
Manor, died on Saturday morning, last, of consumption. His funeral
was held on Monday. He leaves a wife and one son, aged about 15
years."

"Undertaker Geo. H. Bullard, of this village, conducted the funeral
of the late Jas. C. Purvis at Livingston Manor on Monday of last
week. The remains of the deceased were placed in a metallic casket
encased in a solid red cedar shell which was draped with the
heaviest of black broad cloth. The casket was both air tight and
water tight."
