Pat Berstal, an email contact, says that I am related closely to Christopher Van Aken. He enlisted as a private with the Union on 8/13/62 at age 24. He was mustered into co. H of the 120th NY infantry. He was with the 3rd corp (2nd Div). After Gettysburg,, the remnants became part of the 2nd Corp (Hancock's), 4th Div. (Motts). He was wounded at the Wilderness engagement and also wounded on 11/29/64 near Petersburg while on the march. He mustered out on 6/3/65 in Wash DC.
Looking at the family information I still have, I see a C.C. Van Aken, born 1837. I see a daughter, Christina. This rings a bell. I believe this man may be the ancestor I am seeking information on.
This person, based on what I have, would be the son of William Van Aken (b.1810) and Rachel Wiest.
Anything you can find would be appreciated. Again, I am looking for a gravesite should the above prove accurate.
Thanks,
Peter R. Van Aken
