James conducted a saw and turning mill business in Youngsville until 1876 or 1877. Then He went to English Center Pennsylvania and ran a tannery in partnership with his brothers George and Edward.. In 1881He and his two sons moved to Spottslvania county Virginia..
25 miles south of fredericksburg..There they bought 400 acres of timberland and erected the first steam power saw and turning mill in that
area... They made ball bats, Indian clubs,yokes, felloes and other things..
