[Parks.FTW] [Mungeer1.FTW] GEN: !Anderson, III:31-33, 139. GEN: Families of CT, FS Parks, (1906), pg. 70 William Parks and his wife Hannah Hall came to Sullivan County, New York along with her brother John Hall from Litchfield County, Connecticut in 1789(1) and settled on Mutton Hill in the Town of Neversink as early as 1793. He is recorded in 1797 as building and operating a grist and saw mill in Prince's Hollow. William's son Elijah, and John's daughter Sally were the first white male and female born in the Town of Neversink. William Parks was active politically in the area. He served as Supervisor of the Town of Neversink from 1809 - 1811, 1812 - 1815, 1817 - 1820. In 1816, when Sullivan and Ulster Counties formed a joint Assembly district, was one of the four Assemblymen picked from the two counties. At some point thereafter the family of William Parks along with that of his son Elijah, moved to the area that is now Parksville, NY. There were already settlers in that area, namely Lemuel Martin, who had been there since 1800 and wanted the place called Martinville. The Parks' though, took a prominent position in the town building mills and other making other improvements and because of this the area was named Parksville in honor of William Parks. In his old age, William moved to Wawarsing, Ulster Co., NY. He visited his old home in Parksville in July, 1846. He remarked that he had come home to die and be buried there and within a week his words were prophetic. The Sullivan County Whig on October 2, 1846 described him as "an honest, kind, active and affable man, and enjoyed the esteem which such traits generally win." 1. An inscription on the grave of John Hall's son Alvan reads; Alvan Hall son of John Hall who immigrated from Litchfield, Connecticut in 1789. The Pound Cemetery this grave is located in is on Meyers Rd. Neversink, NY.
